Our Congregational Care Deacons are people who commit themselves to minister to the homebound. The Care Deacons are assigned people who they will visit at least monthly. The Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church describes their duties. “To minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith.”

 

Care Deacons are nominated and elected by the congregation for a three-year term. They are chosen for their spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, their love for others and sound judgment. Their ministry flows out of their relationship with God. Paul describes it best in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.”

 

Care Deacons meet the first Thursday of the month from 12-1 pm. They keep in touch with the pastors regarding any special needs that may require pastoral visitation or intervention. Serving Communion during worship, and also, upon request, serving home Communion with a pastor. Another commitment is to join a rotation of those delivering flowers, Easter lilies and poinsettias. Their visits involve praying with their people as well as taking them resources such as bulletins, sermons, etc. and reassuring them that they are still an important part of our church family.
