New Americans
New Americans Ministry works with the Presbyterian Church (USA), its Office of Immigration Issues and with Presbyterians For Just Immigration to translate God’s Word in serving our new immigrant neighbors.
New Americans partners with the East Central Illinois Refugee Mutual Assistance Center (ECIRMAC-The Refugee Center), CU FAIR (Friends and Allies of Immigrants and Refugees), CU Immigration Forum, Immigration Project and New American Welcome Center at University YMCA. We coordinate information and action in partnership with and on behalf of the immigrant-refugee community.
Priorities
Priorities include continued study of the Biblical mandates for welcoming the immigrant, prayer for vulnerable neighbors and for governments. We address resettlement needs of families including basic English literacy, health care, housing, food, clothing, transportation and jobs. We advocate for compassion and justice.
Volunteers
New Americans recruits, trains and coordinates volunteers who are dedicated to being good neighbors.
Funding
New Americans is primarily funded by designated charitable tax deductible gifts to First Presbyterian Church.
