Worship

We were created to worship. Worship renews us, unites our spirits with the Spirit of God, and strengthens us to serve. In worship, we proclaim God’s majesty and holiness, confess our sin and receive assurance of our forgiveness, listen to God’s word, and then, respond with our gifts and our prayers.

William Temple, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, said this about the importance of worship:

Worship is the submission of all of our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by His holiness; the nourishment of mind with His truth, the purifying of imagination by His beauty, the opening of the heart to His love; the surrender of will to His purpose – and all of this gathered up in adoration. Worship is the chief remedy for our self-centeredness.
